About the Book

Veronica Villagrán must return to her Guatemalan hometown to decide the fate of her family’s coffee farm. Thousands of miles from the quiet comforts of California, she is faced with a world she had long forgotten. She unearths her teenage journal, rekindling memories of her own childhood, including the existence of a half-brother and a long forgotten love.

While Veronica struggles with her family legacy, a more dangerous, and possibly deadly, issue looms. The town’s corrupt mayor, Jaime Ramírez, born into abject poverty, yearns for respectability, wealth, and power. He is determined to have Veronica’s farm—and her hand in marriage—by any means necessary.

The Coffee Diary is the breathtaking fictional debut of a deft and colorful author. Caroline Kellems' writing, with shades of Jodi Picoult, Barbara Kingsolver, and Isabel Allende, brings readers into a world of intrigue and drama, reminding us that while cultures may differ, people everywhere remain defined by their emotions and passions.
