About MacAdam/Cage

MacAdam/Cage Publishing was founded as an independent trade publisher in 1998 by David Poindexter with the aim of publishing books of quality fiction and non-fiction and with the commitment to bringing new and talented voices to the literary marketplace.

In 1999 MacAdam/Cage Publishing acquired the independent press MacMurray & Beck, well known in the industry for launching authors such as Patricia Henley (Hummingbird House), William Gay (The Long Home), and Susan Vreeland (Girl in Hyacinth Blue) and heavily supported by the bookselling trade with many BookSense 76 picks as well as appearances in chain store fiction programs that highlight new authors.

Having joined forces and now with operations in both San Francisco and Denver, MacAdam/Cage Publishing represents independent publishing at its best. Innovative in its approach to marketing and yet committed to the time-honored style of publishing, MacAdam/Cage Publishing will continue to introduce new and exciting authors from across the nation and beyond.

MacAdam/Cage Internship Program

Offered three times a year in our San Francisco offices, our unpaid, part-time publishing internship program offers broad but involved experience with tight-knit editorial group, as well as in the marketing and publicity departments. Interns will evaluate fiction and nonfiction manuscripts, organize and read unsolicited materials, and assist the editors and publicity directors in everyday administrative tasks such as mailing, shelving, filing, and light database management.

Candidates should have a strong interest in literature, a passion for reading with a critical eye, and organizational, verbal, and written skills. Interest in local publishing is a plus. We are extremely flexible with personal schedules, but require a commitment of two days a week for three months.

Internships are held during the Summer (June-August), Fall (September-December), and Spring (February- May). To apply, please email your resume and cover letter to jobs@macadamcage.com with the subject line of "Internship program.”
